In these times our support is doubly important!
Recently Texas enacted a law that restricts a woman’s right to choose and greatly imperils her sexual and reproductive health rights. It is draconian. It restricts abortion after six weeks of pregnancy and empowers citizens to act as vigilantes, turning in women who have had abortions and their helpers for a bounty. Other states are rushing to enact copycat legislation.
Although women’s health and reproductive rights are threatened in other states, New York State has strengthened these rights through the efforts of TAP-supported women legislators.
Karen McMahon, Monica Wallace and Crystal Peoples-Stokes took action in the New York Assembly. The Reproductive Health Act, which codified Roe v. Wade into NYS law, was one of the first acts McMahon voted on. Wallace was a co-sponsor of the legislation and Peoples-Stokes a sponsor. All three of these legislators were TAP-supported and elected with your help. Here’s what Monica Wallace says:
“Support from the TAP Fund has been absolutely critical to helping me become an elected official, which then put me in a position to help codify Roe v. Wade in NYS and enact legislation to expand access to contraception. Support from the TAP Fund was also critical to helping Kathy Hochul ascend to become our first woman Governor. I cannot thank everyone enough for your passion and dedication to ensuring that pro-choice women have a seat at the table.”
Governor Kathy Hochul, who TAP has supported for years, said in an email dated September 27, 2021:
“…I can say with confidence that New York will always be a safe harbor for those in need. …Our state’s abortion care resources, patients’ rights to abortion care, and abortion providers will be accessible to all who need it. Our Department of Health will update regulations so that medication abortions are accessible via telehealth …New York will continue to be a safe harbor for all who experience oppression.”
See how your contributions have made a difference! Please donate to TAP now! Help us elect more pro-choice women! Send your checks to Women’s TAP Fund, Box 54, Buffalo New York 14201-0054 or give right here on our website!
We are so grateful for your support!
